Search for Face of Buttercrane 2013

As preparation for this years Newry Style City hots up our reigning Face of Buttercrane Miss Claire Lyons prepares to hand over her crown to the lucky Winner of this years search for Miss Buttercrane 2013.

We asked Claire to put together a few highlights from her experience throughout the year to give any budding models an idea of the excitement in store for this years winner and this is what she had to say:

"I was honoured to receive the title of Miss Buttercrane 2012 and it is an experience that I will live with me forever.

It all began so un-expectantly when I was approached by Buttercrane’s model spotter last year, on my way into work in Top Shop, Buttercrane. This was unexpected, but the talent spotter, former Miss Northern Ireland Pauline Taylor was quick to assure me of the creditability of the event, the potential fun and experiences which lay ahead and I was happy to put my name forward. However, anxiety set in as I had not taken part in anything similar before. Soon after this, I received a phone call to congratulate me in becoming one of the three finalists. I was shocked, but excited to get the chance to try something new, meet new people and to be part of some of Newry's most fashionable events. The selection process ran for the duration of Newry Style City 2012 during which I took my first steps into a whole new world.

Initially I was apprehensive, but throughout the numerous events, and with the help of those involved, I soon saw my confidence grow and really enjoyed the week. I was as amazed as anyone when I was chosen as the winner at the Style Awards in the Bank Niteclub.  And so began a great year and I soon  felt comfortable in fashion shows, photos shoots  and the other events which took place, both inside and outside the centre.

Working in retail, I have a huge interest in fashion. Getting the chance to showcase new trends was an exciting and enjoyable experience. Throughout the year there have been many opportunities, including seasonal fashion shows in the centre, full photo shoots, features in Buttercrane's autumn brochure, posters in the centre and PR work. I even got to switch on the Buttercrane Christmas lights live on local radio Q100.5!

I feel that this experience has helped me to develop my self-esteem, and has boosted my confidence enormously. It was a great experience as it allowed me to meet new people, work with the Buttercrane's own style adviser, and build up my own portfolio, as well as earn a bit of additional income. Most importantly, it was an incredibly enjoyable experience, I had a lot of fun and I would highly recommend it to any young girl interested. Good Luck!!"
